57/366 May Gibbs
Many Australians will have read stories written by May Gibbs about Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, the gumnut babies. Well, I feel this is the sort of hat and hair worn by these characters. Maybe I will find some hidden in my garden.
38/366 Gumnuts galore
Recently had some branches from my flowering gum lopped. Naturally many gumnuts fell to the ground. Will have to tell the art teacher at school who I am sure would love them for her lessons.
37/366 Testing new camera
Well my old camera was starting to cause me problems like not focussing and zooming properly. So I headed to Officeworks and bought a new one. Testing out the zoom function on this grape leaf. Can you see the water drops?
31/366 Native pepper
Because Tasmania is an island state, we get lots of plants and animals that are only found here. While on the mountain, I snapped this shot of the native mountain pepper. If you taste the leaves, they do give off a hot taste in the mouth.
25/366 Acacia tree
One of the great trees found here in Australia is an acacia. They have seeds in pods like peas.
23/366 Fly away
I have just finished mowing my lawns. The problem is there are so many daisy plants growing in them rather than actual lawn. I am going to have to get rid of these fly away seeds before it spreads to one lawn that is, so far, daisy free.
22/366 Cherry
Here in Australia we have a tree called a native cherry. It bears a small fruit, but unlike a normal cherry tree this one has the pip on the outside of the fleshy fruit.
20/366 Daisy, daisy
My parents have a great native Australian plant garden, so when I visited the other day for lunch, I took a few photos of the paper daisies.
16/366 What is this?
Went out to the vege garden last night to get some beans and carrots. Found this plant, about a metre tall, growing between the beans and corn. Any idea what it is?
12/366 Shades of red
Just outside the front door of my house is a pot of geraniums. I noticed today the various shades of red in their petals.
PS I have been told by two readers that these are actually petunias not geraniums.
11/366 So near yet so far
Today squirrel and I were on a bus trip heading to Maria Island on the east coast of Tasmania. Thought this would be a chance for squirrel to start seeing further afield in Tasmania. But alas, the weather was too bad to cross from Triabunna to Maria Island. Instead we went on a cruise around the more sheltered bays and saw some beautiful beaches like Shelley, Stapleton and Spring Beaches.
On the way home, we visited an Australian Bush Garden created in an old disused quarry by 12 members of the Australian Plants Group, Tasmanian Division. Here squirrel saw some of our native plants and animals such as frogs and a wedge tailed eagle.
- Caught by a wedge tailed eagle
- Looking at the trigger plant!
- Getting lost in buttongrass
- Frog and squirrel meet
- Lovely foreshore near Stapleton Beach
- Heading to Maria Island
