Such a calm, relaxing trip this time. Headed up the Darling River today. Again hundreds of birds especially cormorants and pelicans. We were given a list of 177 birds seen in the area, so am ticking them off as I see them. Delicious home made lunch about 40 kilometres up the river then back to Wentworth and through Lock 10. Another 26km to Fort Courage where we left the boat for the second day of our cruise.
First day of cruise. Left Mildura and headed upstream to Trentham Estate where we had a wine tasting and delicious barbecue lunch. Back through Lock 11 and on to Wentworth where we will be based for the next three nights. Lots of birds wherever you look.
Sunday we headed north to Devonport to catch the Spirit of Tasmania across Bass Strait to Melbourne. Left 9.30pm and arrived Melbourne 6.30am. Fantastic voyage. North then to Mildura where we stayed ready for the first day of our cruise on Tuesday.
Long drive today through Cunnamulla where we checked out the Cunnamulla Fella from Slim Dusty fame. Then over the Queensland/NSW border where we stopped at the Tattersalls Hotel for a cuppa. Next break was the Back O’ Bourke display and finally into Cobar for the night
Today we passed through many towns in outback Queensland related to shearing and unions. This evening we went to the Bilby experience at Charleville.
Longreach is our chance to see a local cattle station and view the spectacular shows around town and at the special arena.
Today we headed to Cloncurry and the John Flynn Place commemorating the Royal Flying Doctor Service. We also visited the Walkabout Creek Hotel which was part of the Crocodile Dundee movie. Onto Winton, the home of Waltzing Matilda and Qantas.
